Indian Boarding Schools

  • 5685 Lake Michigan Road Honor, MI, 49640 (map)

Native American populations were subjected to laws and policies forced to assimilate them into American culture and society. These policies accumulated into Indian boarding schools. These institutions of forced assimilation operated for a century and totaled 400 across the country, including 4 in Michigan. This talk will look at the creation of the schools and the impacts it has had. All programs are free with a valid park entrance pass.
