Leelanau, Ojibwe Native American meaning “Land of Delight” is located in the northwest lower peninsula of Michigan, also known as the tip of the “pinky finger”. Surrounded by one of the Great Lakes of Michigan (Lake Michigan), the peninsula boasts 100 miles of shoreline, 33 inland lakes, and five islands: North Manitou, South Manitou, North Fox, South Fox, and Gull Island.
The Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore encompasses some 70,000+ acres including miles of sandy beaches with crystal clear, freshwater, bluffs that tower 450 ft above Lake Michigan, lush forests, clear inland lakes, and trails with unique flora and fauna.
Small coastal towns and villages throughout the county provide a wide variety of accommodations, shops, galleries, eateries, and endless recreation opportunities.
