Sugar Loaf The Old Course | Cedar

Feel the history as you navigate your way around the rolling hills of the golf course. The unique structures and windmills have withstood the test of time and now pave the way for a great Northern Michigan golfing experience. Sugar Loaf is one of Traverse City's premier golf courses.

This classic C.D. Wagstaff-designed golf course reflects the architecture of the first half of the 20th Century. Although Wagstaff may not be as well known as a Ross or MacKenzie, “I never hear of clubs wanting to restore their Joe Roseman or C.D. Wagstaff,” Golf Digest course critic, Ron Whitten, once wrote. Put the golf game aside for a moment, and enjoy the fragrance of cherry blossoms from nearby orchards, the birds, and wildlife that abound from the Northern Michigan and Traverse City surroundings. Or just sit and gaze at the picturesque sunset as it drops behind the Sugar Loaf mountain.

Located 30 minutes from Traverse City, and just miles from Lake Michigan and the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore, this golf course sits amongst all the Northern Michigan splendor one could ask for. Playing at over 6700 yards from the back tees, the “The Old Course” at Sugar Loaf can take a bite out of the most experienced golfer.

“The Old Course” at Sugar Loaf is well maintained and takes full advantage of mature Northern Michigan hardwoods, specimen spruce trees, and native grasses. Poa annua greens, tees, and fairways provide quality turf for your golfing pleasure. Enjoy award-winning groves of daylilies and irises as you navigate your way around the course. Visit in the spring and admire the trillium and daffodils and other wildflowers that fill the floor of the forest.
