  • Distance: 3 to 8 miles (multiple loops)

  • Terrain: Three loops of trails that range from easy to moderate

  • Vegetation: Beech and maple forest to a bench that overlooks Lake Michigan and the Manitou Islands

  • Trailhead: A vault toilet is available at the trailhead.

  • Pets: Pets are NOT allowed on the trails during winter from December 1 through March 31 because it is a designated cross-country trail. This is the only trail in which the use of horses is allowed.

Comments:
The Alligator Hill trail is nine miles of trails that loop through a hilly, leafy, alligator-shaped ridge with beautiful views of Lake Michigan, and Big Glen Lake. The trails are interconnected loops that allow you to choose the hiking experience that suits you and your hikers.

A 1.6-mile spur takes you along the ridge to the Glen Lake overlook

Easy Loop: 3 mi, 4.6 mi with spur

Moderate Loop: 4.7 mi, 6.3 mi with spur

Moderate Loop: 4.6 mi, 6.2 mi with spur

Fees: A National Park Pass is required. Various options are available and can be purchased online or at the Visitors Center in Empire.

Location: East of D.H. Day Campground, off Stocking Rd near its intersection with Day Farm Rd.
