Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore Evening Hike

Join Sleeping Bear Dunes for an unforgettable, no lights, evening hike!  This evening adventure is open to the public and offers a unique opportunity to view the park after dark.

This 1-1.5 hour program may take place on hilly and uneven terrain, covering a distance of .5-1 mile. Join us for this unforgettable experience as we embark on a journey under the dark sky. On this hike, you will discover the transformations our senses undergo in the darkness, lakeshore animals and their adaptations, and much more! Don't let the fear of venturing outdoors at night hold you back—seize this opportunity to explore the nocturnal world safely.

Reservations are not needed. Please remember to wear sturdy footwear, warm clothes, and bring a flashlight or headlamp for added safety. If you do not have a red-colored light, we will provide red cellophane to cover your light.

Snowshoes will not be provided, and they are not required for this hike. If there is significant snow on the ground, park rangers will ensure a firm path to walk on. You are welcome to bring your own snowshoes if you would prefer.

Plan to meet park rangers at Port Oneida Heritage Center (3164 W. Harbor Hwy. Maple City, Michigan 49664) by 7 pm to begin the hike.  Please note: there are no bathrooms at this location. Preregistration is NOT required.

This trail is closed to pets from December 1 through March 31.
