Intro to Birding Hike

Have you ever been curious about the bird responsible for that lovely sound? Join our knowledgeable park rangers to uncover the mystery! Embark on an introductory birding hike suitable for individuals of all ages. Discover which birds stay at Sleeping Bear Dunes throughout the winter and how they survive the harsh elements. This captivating adventure involves a moderate 1-1.5 mile hike. 

Preregistration is required. Plan to meet park rangers at 10 am at the Phillip A. Hart Visitor Center for an introduction.  From here, the group will caravan to Otter Creek Trail.   

This trail is closed to pets from December 1 through March 31.

Free. All programs offered by the National Lakeshore are free. Participants need only purchase the park entrance pass or have an annual pass displayed in their vehicle to join in the fun.

Important:

Programs may be cancelled or the location may change due to snow conditions or winter temperatures.

The decision to cancel or change the location is made two hours in advance. Please call 231-326-4700, ext. 5005, for a voicemail message with the final details.

Programs should be assumed canceled if Leelanau County or Benzie County is under a "Winter Storm Warning" issued by the National Weather Service.
